Competition

When football season comes to a close, you would think the intense, precision pace of Eaglette practice and performance would breathe a collective whew, but not so. Drill team performance is a year-long study of dance. “Off-season” is a very few weeks around Thanksgiving. The girls come back ready to prepare for the event that showcases and awards their collective and individual dance talents…. COMPETITION! Competition brings together over 30 regional Drill Teams for a Friday evening and all-day-Saturday event in February or March. The event is filled with elaborate props and costuming, creative choreography and adoring fans. Dancers may compete in solos, duets, and small ensembles, and the team performs several precision and rhythm group dances including a novelty number – an original dance creation that includes character portrayal and tells a story. In recent years, the Eaglettes novelty dances were based upon scenes from Putnam County Spelling Bee and The Wizard of Oz. Eaglettes confidently and proudly represent Richardson High School as they perform for professional judges from American Dance/Drill Team®. The RHS Eaglette Drill Team is a small but mighty powerhouse, sweeping the competition year after year under the direction of Allison Smiga and Liz Thompson.
